Ariel's sisters all had names that began with the letter "A" — Attina, Alana, Aquata, Arista, Adella, and Andrina. Several things were done in the 1989 film to make Ariel stand out from her sisters. First, unlike her sisters, Ariel's name doesn't also end with the letter "A." Secondly, she's the only redhead and the only one who wears her hair down. Finally, Ariel is unique in that her seashell top isn't the same color as her tail, as is the case with her sisters. Ariel has a purple top and a green tail. It's also interesting to note that this was the last Disney animated feature to use hand-painted cels and analog camera and film work. Over one million drawings were done in total for it.
