You Chose "A" 200 – That's Incorrect!

More than 4,000 men auditioned for the 20 roles on the U.S. Olympic Ice Hockey Team in Miracle.

The young men cast to portray the members of Team USA were chosen primarily for their hockey skills, due to the intense nature of the filming. Acting ability was secondary. In fact, for most of them, Miracle was their first major film.

To avoid confusion during filming, Kurt Russell referred to the hockey players exclusively by their corresponding characters' names or nicknames instead of their real names. For the most part, the Team USA actors also maintained this policy among themselves.

The only player/actor of the team who was a more genuine actor was Eddie Cahill, who played Jim Craig. While he wasn't a hockey player, he had played goalie in lacrosse and was able to adequately transition to portraying a hockey goalie accurately, although a stunt double was used for much of the actual game-play footage.
